Police Warn of Facebook Marketplace Ticket Scams
Staff Report / SHlocal.org
Spring Hill Police Department has issued a warning regarding potential scams on Facebook Marketplace, specifically concerning the sale of Vanderbilt vs. Tennessee football tickets. Officers have received numerous reports from individuals who believe they have been scammed by individuals claiming to sell the tickets.
The reported scam involves buyers sending payment through mobile payment apps such as CashApp or Venmo before receiving their tickets. After the payment is made, the seller then blocks the buyer, leaving them without tickets and out of pocket.
To avoid falling victim to these scams, the police advise that buyers should never send payment before receiving the tickets. Additionally, they recommend using a credit card for transactions, as this method typically provides greater protection compared to mobile payment applications.
